Our Little Baller

Do any of you remember that song, "I Wish" by Skee Lo?

"I wish I were taller, 

I wish I were a baller, 

I wish..."

I will stop there. Otherwise, you might miss the point...unless you remember that song and you now have it stuck in your head...you, my friend, might miss the point, and for that I apologize! 

The point is, Jonah "wishes" none of these things. Jonah has already achieved 

1. baller and 2. taller (than he was a few months ago)

A couple of weeks ago someone we love graduated from High School. She had a fun luau graduation party at a local Branson resort. This resort was so stinking cool that it had a little guy size basketball goal. 

It was also stinking cool in the temperature sense of the word. brrr.

He played here for a long time. Jonah and Daddy had lots of fun making baskets!

Let me preface this video. Jonah does not sit in front of the t.v. for any amount of time. If I do find something he likes, he will "watch" it while playing with other things in the room. He just never sits still. There is nothing wrong with not sitting still (especially for t.v. viewing). I am just giving you a little background to a what-might-appear-dull video.

I thought Jonah was looking out the window watching Jonathan mow. I went to check on him and this is what I discovered. 

When you watch, you will hear him tell you what appeals most to him about watching the program that was on t.v. today.

He sat there for more than 10 minutes straight. 

I personally find golf rather dull. That is why I think it is funny that GOLF is what enthralls him enough to sit perfectly still.

Hiding Out

My life has been rather busy this past week. I know I've mentioned that a couple of times. The other day we were out a little later than normal. Jonah had fallen asleep on the way home. I gently pulled him out of the carseat. He stayed asleep on my shoulder. I carried him into his room and began the inner debate...do I change him into pajamas? Do I change his diaper? Or do I just let the sleeping baby lie? I carefully removed his shoes and sat down in the rocking chair to think through my next move. 

I found myself sitting there thinking about all the things that were on my to-do list. And I decided right then to sit a while longer with my sweet sleeping baby. I was "hiding  out" from the rest of my week and soaking up the precious moment with my boy. 

I ended up placing him in the crib with his clothes and diaper untouched. He cried out once and then promptly went back to sleep...and slept for 10 more hours! He was one tired dude. 

Jonathan and I stayed up late tackling part of that to-do list, so it was nice that Jonah slept a little late the next morning.

Dressing Up.

I have been very busy this week. And my unemployed husband has been home, so we've had lots of family time. I love family time more than blog time. Sorry for the absence. 

One of the things I was busy with involved sorting clothes. Lots and LOTS of baby clothes (as well as some of my own). I was working with some other people to get some donations to the people in Joplin. I can not imagine the sorrow they are facing there. I am glad I could at least give them the clothes off my back. (well, sort of)

Anyway, another friend gave me several large bags of baby clothes. Most of them were items for  baby girls. There were a few boy things and two COSTUMES exactly the right size for my little munchkin.

We just had to put him in them.

 Cute little puppy. (he didn't like the hat with ears, which is why i'm holding his arms away from his body)

And, who doesn't like a little lobster?

I thought this was incredibly cute.

These Mickey pajamas were the only things I kept. I just had to. When Jonah saw them in the pile on the floor he ran to them squealing. It was priceless. You see, he was just given that little stuffed Mickey as a gift from 3 of our favorite people. It was a souvenir from their recent trip to Orlando. I love love love these pictures. I asked him to hug his Mickey and this was the result:

It has been four years since we said "I do."

And you know what, we still "Do."

We like to consider ourselves newlyweds...we'd like to keep it that way for 50 more years. 

(yeah, we are sappy and silly)

New Word

Well, the little man has mastered a new word. He's really a man of very few words, and this new one is TAKING OVER his entire 3-word vocabulary!

He says it all the time. In response to EVERY question.

He says it to the dog.

He says it to the t.v.

He says it loudly, and repeatedly.

Makes me wonder how many times I have said it.

Making me use it's counterpart more...trying to reinforce the positive here!!

Weekend Update: The Day for Mothers

So, this is a week late in posting. 

I can do that. I'm the mother!

We had a wonderful day this year for Mother's Day.

The sun was shining and I felt special.

Jonathan and Jonah gave me some beautiful flowers:

The big bouquet is from Jonathan. There are also two single roses in there. Those are from Jonah (one for each year he's been here). Well, the florist lady thought that was SUCH a sweet idea and that Jonah was SO cute that she gave them a 50% discount! Talk about a HAPPY mother!

(if only he could get us half-price discounts everywhere)

Not only did I get beautiful flowers, but I also got to spend time with my mother. She and my dad drove up after church. My sister came over too. We all had a big roast (prepared by my wonderful husband). After lunch we all went to the mall. All but Jonathan and Jonah. Jonah needed a nap, so Jonathan opted to stay with him...AND do the dishes. What a sweetie.  I'm pretty spoiled! (and thankful)

Kanakuk/K-Life In Review: The End

Well, guys, as you probably know by now, this is Jonathan's last week at a job he's had for eight years. I'd like to dedicate the remainder of this week to his time with that job and all the neat things that have happened along the way! 

This Monday was Jonathan's final club meeting with K-Life. I usually am unable to attend, but Jonah and I made it out this Monday. 

 Jonathan did some extra things to celebrate the end of the school year. He grilled hot dogs for the kids and had some extra "hang-out" time for them. While they ate he played a video of all the videos of the year. After eating, he gathered everyone for some games. 

One of Jonathan's gifts is including others. He's great at drawing people (especially young people) in. Most of the kids students were enthusiastic about the game, but you know in a group this size, there is bound to be at least one reluctant person. He got them all in, and as far as I could tell they all had a great time.

When we went back down the games were ending and Jonathan was about to get up in front of everyone. My plan was to hold Jonah in the back. Jonah had another plan...his plan was to be Jonathan's shadow. (which is where the picture of him on Jonathan's shoulder comes in) Follow this through with me.....1) Jonah on Jonathan's shoulders...2) very very cute....3) audience laughs....4) Jonah laughs....repeat 2-4.

So, Jonah and I headed out the door and came home and eliminated the distraction.

 

 

Jonathan has been going through Matthew chapters 5, 6, & 7 this semester, teaching them from the Sermon on the Mount. His goal for club was to have those chapters memorized and have the kids sit out on a grassy hill where he would give the Sermon on the Mount. With all that is going on, he was only able to memorize one of those chapters (but still amazing, right! and entire chapter of the Bible memorized in a day) And the weather was unseasonably warm, so they were gathered inside.

We still do not know exactly what the future holds. We just received the last paycheck. Hopefully we know where the next one is coming from before this one runs out. 

We do know that God is faithful to provide. We simply have to be faithful (trusting him) and obedient (to do the job He's got in store). This is sometimes easier said than done. We are trying not to worry or become stressed.

Kanakuk/K-Life In Review: The Events

Well, guys, as you probably know by now, this is Jonathan's last week at a job he's had for eight years. I'd like to dedicate the remainder of this week to his time with that job and all the neat things that have happened along the way!

Today I've put together a collage (you know how I love the collage) of all the events Jonathan has been a part of over the past years. They are in no particular order, nor is each and every event/activity included. I do hope to represent a little of everything here:

We are just going to have to deal with it being a bit big. It's either too small to see the photos, or hanging over the edge here. No middle ground.

Some of the things you see pictured may include, but are not limited to:
*club time --a weekly activity (Jonathan does club in Forsyth and Bradleyville)
*small group Bible study--weekly activity
*ski trips--annual event. sometimes they go in spring, but usually it is one of the weeks school is out for Christmas break.
*dodgeball tournament--annual event held in the fall
*Labor Day Walk/Run--Family event held every year at the Branson Landing. This is a great fundraiser and always a load of fun. Jonathan has not only helped with the planning, but also designed the t-shirts for this event! (one of my personal favorites)
*track night --when they kick off the new school year then entire county gathers at one of the Track Family Fun parks where they ride go carts, play arcade games, and play laser tag.

Jonathan has gotten to do some great things and has had great fun these past eight years! He has also worked with some amazing people. I won't list them all, for fear of leaving someone out (he isn't here for me to double check with). You know who you are. We love the people of K-Life!

Kanakuk/K-Life In Review: The Early Years

Well, guys, as you probably know by now, this is Jonathan's last week at a job he's had for eight years. I'd like to dedicate the remainder of this week to his time with that job and all the neat things that have happened along the way!

When I met Jonathan he was already working for K-Life. He also worked for Kanakuk each summer. He was the cook at one of their kamps. (yeah, he worked in the kitchen with a bunch of other girls in his life). 

Once I came along, this all changed. Mainly because it was not conducive for him to keep that job each summer AND be married...so...I WON. (or as we like to say..."WE won")!

That kitchen still bears his name! I love it.

Then, the two of us met and he got me involved in his crazy little world. (a world I was familiar with from my own experience...which was actually something he'd prayed/hoped for in the woman he married!)

 Ah, those were the days! The picture above was taken at Krunktober, one of the annual events for K-Life. They start off with a big region-wide dodgeball tournament and then usually bring in someone to do a big concert that night.

And the picture below was taken on a ski trip. I think it was the first year we were married. That was the only year we chose for me to go on the ski trip.

Weekend Update: Crowd Pleaser!

What do these things have in common?

We see avacado, chips, a very cute boy, some citrus juice, and an onion.

Put it all together and you have....

The cutest guacamole EVER!!

It was really really good. We (the three of us) ate it in one sitting.

Then, I went to the store for more avocados.

No, we are not piggies. We had a small gathering to attend that night. The hosts were preparing burgers. The avocado mixture was the perfect complement to the meal. (always a good crowd pleaser). And Jonah had a big grin on his face all night (also a crowd pleaser). 

The only non-pleasing event that night was saying goodbye. You see, Jonathan is not returning to his position with K-Life after this school year. We gathered with the K-Life board and staff Saturday night for a little farewell dinner. It was sweet. We will miss those folks.

And if we come to your mind this week you can say a little prayer for our job search. We know God will take care of us. But, we really want to make sure our choices line up with His plan for us. (determining that plan is the tricky part)

In the mean time, we will probably eat more guacamole! Yum Yum.
