I thought I'd do something a little different today. If you haven't seen these videos...well, I think you should. So, here are some of my favorite internet videos that I've seen lately.

this one is so cute. it is a bit long, but just kept me laughing...i can only imagine what they are "saying"

Remembering Stubby

Did you ever have a family pet? You know, the one that everyone loves and will never forget? The one you remember growing up with? I sure do. Her name was Wendy. She was my parents' first child! I grew up with her. She died when I was 12. I will never forget that day and I will never forget that dog. We all loved her. 

Well, this morning Jonathan called me when he got to work. He got an email from his mom telling him their beloved Stubby was gone. I only knew Stubby for a few years, but hearing this still made me sad. I know Jonathan and his family are a little more sad than I. 

So, here's to Stubby and all beloved family pets.

Ready for Spring: digging some dirt

for the longest time (like, all winter) we had a huge pile of mulch sitting in our front yard. it was given to us by some kind neighbors who had extra. we fully intended to put it on the flower bed before it froze.  then, well, we never did it. then it snowed and the pile disappeared...for a time. 

now that spring has peeked around the corner, we finally got out and tackled the mulch pile. 

jonah helped.

the car adventure

(we took this picture last summer when the car really had major problems. thankfully our current problem has not require a tow)

I've been without it for a couple of days now. I am very thankful to understanding/gracious people  in my life (aka: my employers) who have majorly eased the inconvenience. This most recent problem is not a big deal. It is something Jonathan can fix (he's pretty handy), but finding the time to fix it is becoming an issue.

I will spare you the boring details. And let's all say a little prayer that it gets fixed before 2pm this afternoon!

The Alphabet Book Monster

Jonah likes them a lot. You should see the "G" book...he REALLY likes it (the whole corner was yummy)!

Anyway, on this particular day he was having fun making a mess with the books. He'd started out running and sliding, so we got the camera. Then, he resorted to plain-old-messmaking. But, I made a video anyway. You will see a bit of sliding at the end.

Weekend Update: Bad Dog!

well...we had an extra weekend project this last weekend. let me start at the beginning of the story.

the weather is changing. we are welcoming in spring with open arms!  that also means we have turned off the heat and opened up the windows (one of my favorite seasonal transitions).

jonah and i went out on friday afternoon to run some errands. when we got home i came in through the garage, opened up the door to the kitchen, and a little dog ran through my legs to get outside. well, i got to thinking...i was CERTAIN that i'd put that same dog in the backyard earlier in the day. my heart started beating faster (somewhat like i imagine Anne Shirley's did in regards to her jersey cow, dolly, but that is not my story). anyway, i wondered if the door to the backyard had not shut good and went to inspect. i did not find anything wrong with the door, but something was very wrong with the screen on the dining room window. thus, the title, BAD DOG.

i guess he'd jumped up and scratched enough to make a hole he could squeeze his nose/head into. grrrr. first i was in disbelief, then i was just plain mad!

well, we wanted the windows open. we were not going to let the dog win. so, we had to repair the screen. jonathan went to lowes and got the supplies. then he enlisted a helper:

"is this right, daddy?"

"are you ready for this tool now?"

i wish i had a photo of the finished project. it turned out great. and after the discipline we administered to the dog, i doubt he'll try breaking anything down for a long time! *fingers crossed*

Oh The Places He'll Go!

you just never know where you might find this little explorer. just look where he's been lately:

 i was preparing a package to go in the mail. i could hear jonah behind me...and then i heard a little grunting and something banging against metal. this is what i found...

(i wasn't fast enough to catch him getting up there...and i tried more than once!) 

wonder what he is saying to us?

 he's just too stinking cute.

 

 then, he wanted to help me unload the dishwasher. i had to remove him from the door several times, just to get the dishes out.

 and when we got them all out, he wanted to see the ones i'd stacked on the counter.

(at least that equipment is being put to some sort of use!)

and then, yesterday, the little stinker found a way to crawl inside the tub...he was SO proud of himself. i could not help laughing at this...he just makes me smile!

Captured Cuteness!

Jonah has been doing this cute thing...and I finally recorded some of it so you can have a little taste of it, too. I am not sure what prompted him to do this, but here you go (the end is my favorite part)...it's cute!

                                      

Lesson Learned

Yesterday I had a momentary (ok, honestly, it was more than just a "moment") freak-out. My freak-out was momentary temporary and rather unnecessary.

You see, Jonah got some really cute shoes for Christmas. They were a gift from...you guessed it...his Auntie Em!! I wanted to put them on him, but I COULD ONLY FIND ONE. Oh dear. I searched everywhere. And, with a sinking pit in my stomach I remembered cleaning out Jonah's room the day before. I'd filled an empty diaper box with trash and it had gone to the curb (& been picked up) that very morning.

I was  certain that Jonah had slipped the other shoe into that "trash" box when I wasn't looking. I was sick over the loss of that shoe. And I was reminded of this verse... "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break and steal." Matthew 6:21 So, I guess my lesson learned is to not get so worked up over "things." I'd like to say this is when I stopped to pray and ask for help in finding the shoe. However, I don't think I did. 

Later in the day, something occurred to me.  I'd found some socks in the tub when I'd last gone to run bath water. So, I checked the tub.

toys, but no shoe. OH wait, what's that?

do you see it? it took me more than one glance, but I FOUND THE SHOE! Praise the LORD...and I did.  So, my second lesson for the day was leave the bathroom door shut!

the one with yogurt

OH. MY. GOODNESS!! 

this post is a two-part series. well, maybe not in the true sense of that. i am including both parts in today's blog post. the main feature is the second part, but I am including a little back story for you!  so, without further ado...i present: the one with yogurt!

Part 1

one day a week or so ago i was working at the computer after dinner. jonah seemed to need something more to eat, so i set him up with some yogurt in his high chair. i helped him get started and then let him go at it a bit on his own. i figure he's old enough to start learning more in the self-feeding dept. plus, he is happier when  he can do it himself. this was the result of that:

a bit messy, but very accomplished. he loved feeding himself!

Part 2
THEN...yesterday, i was making dinner. he was very very hungry (read: he was screeching so loud i could hardly hear myself think) and the cheerios were not going to cut it much longer, and, in order to get real food on the table i had to keep cooking. so....i thought a little yogurt might do the trick. well, it sure did something!! this is the result i faced this time:

as you can see, that final picture was taken in the bathroom. 

he had a good scrub before i ate my dinner. 

in the end i'd call this little venture a success. 

nobody or nothing was [permanently] damaged. he loved it, and probably developed some sort of motor skills.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!! We love this whimsical author and we like to celebrate around here! 
Last year we kept it simple and celebrated with this cute little commemorative picture:

This year we did something new! Target hosted Read Across America in every store. We attended their story time and got a fun little goody bag! Jonah sat very still and listened intently for almost 2 whole books!! Everyone thought he was the cutest little thing and I was we were very proud of him!
