Snow Day!!

Well, if you live anywhere in the mid-west you have seen snow this week. I know we sure have here in Missouri. This is our second snow of the year, but it is the first one that was worth getting out to play in. We took Jonah out to play in snow for the very first time! (last year he was too tiny)

He liked it, I think. Jonathan made him snowballs and Jonah would pick them up and say "ball" right before he smashed them back to the ground. For one brief moment (you will see on the video) the little guy had a cottontail. 

We put rain boots on Jonah. It was that or canvas tennis shoes, so we put nice thick socks and rain boots on the sweet boy. He couldn't really walk in the snow anyway, so why bother with unencumbered footwear?

And I should give a little shout out to our sweet neighbor/friend, Abbie who was not only captured here shoveling her driveway, but who also snapped our family pic for us! We love Abbie!!

Eating...it's what I do!

Gimme A Kiss!

Two posts in one day?! Well, I just can't help myself. And I'm making up for the lack of posts earlier in the week.

So, Jonah learned something new and it is just the cutest thing! I know I say that a lot. It is true a lot. He's really cute. And him giving kisses is really cute!

He hasn't done it again since this video was taken. This is rare footage, folks!

Bump on the Nose

I'm sure very few of you are too interested in Jonah's bump on the nose. That doesn't sound very thrilling, I know. But, I'm one of those moms...you know the ones who think everything their child does is cute/photo worthy. I say that as though it has negative connotation...but really, I'm proud to be one of those moms! I hope I drive him nuts with all the photo taking through his life, cause that means we've documented lots of memories. I am so glad that I grew up in an era of cameras. I am glad my mom has so many pictures of me as a kid. I wish there were more pictures of my mom as a kid, or my grandparents even.

Anyhow, I digress. We're talking about Jonah's injury, aren't we. Well, last Sunday night we were at church. Jonah was walking around and tripped (on his own two feet, I believe) and fell. Flat on his face. I guess his reflexes aren't quite cat-like yet, cause he wasn't able to catch himself with his hands. He caught himself with his nose. And it bled. Immediately. It was probably enhanced by the runny nose he's been having and the dry air that comes with winter. And I will stop before I get too graphic! If you are squeamish about injury-type images, you may not want to look at the 1st one. Consider that my fair warning.

Let me just say, I am so proud of my cute boy. He only cried a little bit. It was still bleeding when he quit crying. He's just that happy of a kid! And of course, he smiled for the photo. What a cutie!

 I just noticed how the lighting of this one makes it appear as though he is a floating head!

The next day I was checking to see how he looked. I thought he'd have a bruise. All I found was what I believe is a little rug burn. Even that isn't very bad and is nearly gone now. I've said before that I think he has a high tolerance for pain. I also believe he is pretty fearless. I'm in for it. This is not the first, nor last of his injuries! And THANK the GOOD LORD he didn't knock out any teeth. He doesn't have any to spare!

Happy Night

 

Well, last night Jonah and Mommy had a very happy night. It all started in the Walmart parking lot, believe it or not. Jonah got the silly idea to chew on the collar of his shirt in a way that made it squeak...and cracked himself up big time!! He laughed almost all the way home from the store. When we got home, it was going to be just the two of us for the evening as Jonathan was out a little later than usual. I didn't feel much like preparing a full meal, (did I mention we'd just come from Walmart) so we had scrambled eggs. I thought it might be fun to have a picnic in the living room floor. After I made the eggs I spread a blanket and called Jonah over to eat. When he came into the room and saw that blanket he cracked up laughing all over again! It was so cute!! Every time he looked down at that blanket he laughed again! Eating picnic style is tricky with a 1 year old. He thought he should get to stand up to eat, but I made him sit. So, he'd get up after every bite and laugh before he'd sit to take another bite. Some of the times, I guess he didn't want to sit, because he would hug me and try to take a bite (as cute & sweet as it was, it didn't work).

You can see evidence of the cracking up! He laughed and laughed all night! I love it! The picture with the plate is posed, he didn't really hold the fork through dinner!

After we ate our eggs, an apple, and some yogurt, Jonah played for a while. Then he got in the tub...and had some more happy times! It makes me so happy to see him so happy and healthy. The only sad time of the day was bed time. He cried a bit more than usual...I guess we'd just been having too much fun, he didn't want it to end. I love that sweet baby!

Peek-A-Boo!

Well, this classic baby game has hit the Atkins' house full force! Jonah LOVES to play Peek-A-Boo! Earlier this week I told you about our New Years trip to visit with the extended Atkins family. Well, in the car ride there Jonah got a little antsy. The solution to an antsy baby in the car? 20 solid minutes of peek-a-boo, of course! My neck still hurts from being cranked around so I could see him. I just love how happy Jonah can be from such a simple thing. That smile and deep-down-belly laugh of his makes the neck pain disappear!

It isn't only for the car. This game is very easy to play anywhere. Like, the middle of the living room floor, to stave off a pre-nap meltdown!

Wrapping up 2010....Look Who's Walking!

Well, guys. It is Jan. 3rd...a new year. But I didn't finish everything in 2010...so here you go. The last of the last...get that...last bits of the last month of last year. Nevermind, just look at the pictures.

I've been holding out on you. I didn't intend to hold out, I just never had the camera ready at the right moments. Jonah started WALKING toward the end of December. December 17th, to be exact. The day Jonathan left to go skiing for 5 days. I was on the phone that night...talking with my dear mother...and all of the sudden he just took off! He'd been acting like he'd take off any time for over a month. I just knew he'd be walking by Thanksgiving...but he held out till nearly Christmas. He was 13 months and 3 weeks old. The video is rather shaky...it's hard to capture such a mobile little guy! Walking is now his primary means of getting from here to there. What a quick transition!

We ended the year with a trip up North. We spent New Year's with the Atkins family north of Kansas City. I didn't get many pictures...but there was on moment I just had to capture!! Jonathan gave the baby a candy cane. It was a special flavor candy cane, which translates to "super messy." It's all about the memories!
